RIZE is an open hardware, open source computer for teaching computer fundamentals.  The project's goal is to create a very low cost platform with a classic architecture.  The minimal-abstraction approach enables the user to understand the direct relationship between programming and hardware.

Have fun learning Computer programming on the RIZE classic computer!

There are two broad categories of RIZE user:

  • Developers who create RIZE programs using cross development tools (ie. GCC on Win or Linux)

  • General users, who download existing software and create programs directly on RIZE


TUTORIAL #1 : Getting Started

This is a tutorial for general users.

You'll need:

  • RIZE computer board (about $60 when available)

  • An old LCD or CRT monitor

  • Cheap keyboard and mouse (<$10)

  • Secure Digital Card (SD Card) and reader for downloading free software

Optional

  • Game controller
