Home of the RIZE Open Computer Project

RIZE is an open hardware, open source computer for teaching computer fundamentals.  The project's goal is to create a very low cost platform with a classic architecture.  The minimal-abstraction approach enables the user to understand the direct relationship between programming and hardware.

RIZE Design Philosophy

  • Open hardware (todo: select/define license statement)

  • Open software (todo: select/define license statement - GPL?)

  • Must be very low cost - doesn't make sense if end cost is > $60 ($50 or less is best!)

  • Classic design - no FPGAs or funky circuits.  CPU + RAM + ROM - that's all!

What do you think?  Give your $0.02 in our forum.  It won't cost you a penny!
