RIZE is an open hardware, open source computer for teaching computer fundamentals.  The project's goal is to create a very low cost platform with a classic architecture.  The minimal-abstraction approach enables the user to understand the direct relationship between programming and hardware.

Project Plan (aka the Crystal Ball)

Here's the planned sequence of events - no dates [yet].  The timeline depends on overall interest level.

  • Announce RIZE project (Current status)

  • Release RMS102 as software development platform

  • Gather feedback on specifications, objectives, licenses.  Revise and repeat.

  • RIZE schematics ready for general review

  • RIZE PCB ready for general review

  • Develop RIZE firmware (bootloader etc) and basic software

  • Release RIZE Revision 1 under open-hardware/open-source license

  • First production run
